The star in this recipe are the poppy seeds, they would surely go just as well with other fruits - slices of apples, apricots, plums, cherries, berries, etc.
The cake is very fragrant, like a poppy "bomb" - fluffy, tender, and of course fast.
By the way, the quantities in the recipe are for a round tray of 28-30cm, I made a double quantity in the pictures and I used a large rectangular tray.

Prepare the fruit and finely grind the poppy seeds (in the coffee grinder or blender).
You may not grind the poppy, but you will feel the beans between your teeth.
Beat the egg whites with the sugar, add the sour cream and mix.
Then add flour and baking powder, mix well so they are not lumpy.
And the last one put the ground poppy seeds, mix.
Pour the dough into a tray lined with baking paper, level and spread over the entire surface.
Place the cherries / fruit on top.
Put the cake in the preheated oven at 150-180 degrees and leave for about 40 minutes, until it browns nicely.
Then allow to cool well.
Serve and portion according to preference.
