Onion and Garlic Pull Apart Bread - Balabushki

Onion and Garlic Pull Apart Bread - Balabushki

This dish brings back fond childhood memories. Along with Grandma's onion and potato pies, it was a staple when bread was baked in the wood oven using the bread dough. These breads are delicious, aromatic, and fluffy, perfect to enjoy as a standalone snack, in soup, or with a vegetable dish.

Try making them whenever you prepare Homemade Bread. Just reserve a piece of dough and follow the recipe steps below.

Ingredients

Basic bread dough
500 g
use any amount you prefer
White onion
1 piece

Garlic cloves
5 pieces

Sunflower oil
100 ml

Salt
1 tsp

Step by step

Step 1

Start by preparing the bread dough using your preferred recipe. I often use the Homemade Bread dough recipe. Knead well and allow it to rise.

After setting aside a portion of the dough, roll it out to a thickness of about a finger. Slice into pieces 1.5-2 cm thick.

Place all the dough balls closely together on a baking tray greased with a bit of oil. Let them rise for 10-15 minutes and then bake in a preheated oven at 180-200 degrees Celsius.

Separate each bread ball from the rest and transfer to a deep bowl. Pour the fried onions and oil along with the garlic sauce over the bread, mixing thoroughly to ensure each piece is evenly coated with the flavorful medley.
