Ham and Cheese Pinwheels

Ham and Cheese Pinwheels

This is another recipe with the quick homemade puff pastry which I presented the other day. It really helps me cook fast, delicious and healthy food. This time I improvised these ham and cheese pinwheels, a kind of rolled mini pizzas. Children love them and are perfect for breakfast, picnic, as appetizer, packed and to go. Of course, you can make puff pastry pinwheels with any filling, salty or sweet. If you don't have homemade puff pastry, the store bought also works.

My kids and their dad appreciated them a lot. They were a great replacement for the morning sandwiches and we took them with us for a picnic. For dessert, from the same dough, we made some elephant ears, equally appreciated and loved, especially by the children.

Ingredients

Puff pastry
400 g
bought or homemade, find the link in step one
Tomatoes sauce
3 tbsp
I mean the tomato sauce for pizza, it can be replaced with ketchup
Yellow cheese
150 g
sliced or grated
Smoked ham
150 g
preferably thinly sliced

Step by step

Step 1

I made the quick puff pastry the day before, the recipe is here.

It can be replaced with any other puff pastry you can find on the market.

Step 2

Press the dough well and spread out into a small rectangle.

Step 3

Stretch into a long and narrow rectangle, about 15x30cm.

If you have store bought dough, cut the sheet into 2 pieces and roll out a bit with the rolling pin. This way you will get 2 large rolls and, therefore, more pinwheels.

Step 4

Brush the rectangle with tomato sauce or ketchup.

On 2/3 of the sheet place a thin layer of ham and cheese. I had slices and you can see in the picture how I arranged them.
